Welcome to Histon & Impington Open Gardens. Every two years, the owners of some of the most beautiful private gardens in our villages open them up to the public to visit for one day in June. All proceeds from the event are shared between several charities, nominated by the garden owners. It’s a magical and fun family day out.
In these secret green spaces, you can wander between lush flower beds and borders, sit shaded by mature trees and shrubs and marvel at plump fruit and veg grown by our villages’ most dedicated and passionate gardeners. And if that’s not enough, you’ll be able to hear performances from local musicians, or emjoy a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake while watching butterflies flitting between the summer blooms. Plus, you’ll be able to pick up some beautiful bargains at our plant stall, and take a piece of the magic home with you.
So whether you’re a veteran of Open Gardens or you’re new to the idea of visiting our villages’ beautiful private spaces, you’re all in for a treat!

Open Gardens 2022 raises £11,000!
After a longer break than usual, thanks to lockdown, the eighth Histon and Impington Open Gardens was held on Sunday 12th June 2022, with eighteen wonderful gardens opening. We sold the equivalent of 1540 programmes (with a small panic in the afternoon as we raced around the village to find the last few unsold ones) and 5 gardens counted more than a thousand visitors!
As you have come to expect, we had some fantastic music groups playing in many of the gardens, and wonderful teas in several. Altogether, it was a wonderful community day. We raised a totally amazing £11,000, breaking our previous record from 2019, which we had thought was unbreakable! This was shared equally between our four charities, Histon & Impington Feast, HI Friends, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and the Hedgehog Hospital at Shepreth Wildlife Conservation Charity.
A huge thank you to:
- our generous sponsors
- the Village Society and Print-Out for their continued support
- our programme sellers, Station Stores, Topiary Tree, St Andrew’s Café, Ginhouse Flowers and Histon Post Office
- our fabulous, talented photographers, Brian Ing and Jemima Borrill
- and of course, all of our gardeners and volunteers
